Malaysia will host a Special Meeting of ASEAN Foreign Ministers on Dec 22, 2025, to address the escalating situation between Thailand and Cambodia, according to the Foreign Affairs Ministry (Wisma Putra).
The Special Meeting follows a decision by the Prime Ministers of Malaysia, Cambodia, and Thailand on Dec 11, 2025, and will be chaired by Malaysia’s Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
It aims to provide a platform for ASEAN Foreign Ministers to exchange views on the situation and explore possible steps toward de-escalation and cessation of hostilities, promoting peace and stability between the two countries and the wider region.
Wisma Putra emphasised that convening the Special Meeting underscores ASEAN’s commitment to unity, solidarity and centrality in maintaining regional peace and security, in line with the ASEAN Charter and the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia.
As ASEAN Chair, Malaysia remains committed to constructive dialogue, encouraging both sides to uphold international law, strengthen neighbourly relations and pursue bilateral and multilateral cooperation toward a peaceful, just, and lasting resolution of the dispute.
The meeting also reflects Malaysia’s proactive role in facilitating dialogue and reinforcing ASEAN’s role as a stabilising force in Southeast Asia.
