Manulife Holdings Berhad has announced the appointment of Mr. Renzo Christopher Viegas as its new Independent Non-Executive Chairman, effective January 1, 2026.
Viegas, a seasoned figure in the regional financial services industry, succeeds Dato’ Dr. Zaha Rina Binti Zahari, who is retiring from the role. The transition marks a new chapter for the insurance and wealth management group as it leans into Mr. Viegas’s extensive background in banking transformation and strategic leadership.
Viegas, 64, brings over four decades of experience to the chair. His career is characterized by senior leadership roles across some of the most prominent financial institutions in the Asia-Pacific region: Early Career (Citibank): Spent over 20 years with Citibank, holding senior positions across various countries and eventually serving as COO and CFO of Citibank Malaysia.
RHB Bank Berhad: Joined in 2008 as Director of Retail Banking. By 2011, he was the Principal Officer and later Deputy CEO, overseeing retail and international businesses.
CIMB Group: Served as Group Deputy CEO and CEO of Group Consumer Banking (2012–2016). He was instrumental in transforming CIMB’s consumer bank into a regional growth engine before serving as an Adviser to the Group CEO until 2019.
He currently sits on the board of Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd as an Independent Non-Executive Director, where he chairs both the Audit and Risk Committee and the Strategy and Business Transformation Committee.
