CIMB Enhances Online Banking Security With Biometric Verification

CIMB Bank has enhanced security for its online banking users by introducing biometric authentication alongside its existing SecureTAC approval feature in the CIMB OCTO App.

The new measure allows customers to complete transactions with an additional layer of verification using Face ID on iOS devices or fingerprint recognition.

After approving a transaction via SecureTAC, users will be prompted to verify their identity biometrically before the transaction is finalised.

To use the feature, customers initiate transactions on CIMB Clicks Web, approve them via the SecureTAC notification on the CIMB OCTO App and then complete the process through biometric verification. Password verification remains an alternative option where applicable.

The move aligns with Bank Negara Malaysia’s directive to strengthen online banking security and combat financial scams.

CIMB’s latest measure complements existing features such as the Lock Clicks ID, single-device registration for CIMB OCTO and electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC) for first-time logins.

CIMB advises customers to keep their devices and the OCTO App updated to the latest versions and to download the app only from official stores, including the Apple App Store, Google Play Store and Huawei AppGallery.

Customers changing devices are encouraged to remove their old device before performing first-time logins on a new phone.

The bank also urged vigilance against suspicious activity. Customers who detect unusual transactions should activate the Lock Clicks ID, notify CIMB’s Consumer Contact Centre, change their account passwords or PINs and lodge a police report to support investigations.

CIMB’s integration of biometric verification demonstrates its commitment to safer, more secure digital banking experiences while protecting customers against unauthorised transactions.
