Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom issued a joint statement on Jan 18, reaffirming their commitment to Arctic security and denouncing recent US tariff threats.
The statement posted on X highlighted that the pre-coordinated Danish military exercise, “Arctic Endurance,” conducted with NATO allies, “poses no threat to anyone” and is part of broader efforts to strengthen security in the region.
The countries expressed full solidarity with Denmark and the people of Greenland, emphasising that any dialogue will be grounded in “the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
The statement also warned that tariff threats could undermine transatlantic relations and trigger “a dangerous downward spiral,” with the allies affirming their intent to remain “united and coordinated” in their response while upholding national sovereignty.
