They’re Back! Cats Returns To Singapore After Seven Years

One of musical theatre’s most recognisable productions is heading back to Singapore. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats will return this October, marking its first run in the city in around seven years, with a limited season at Sands Theatre, Marina Bay Sands.

According to CNA, tickets will be released in phases from 9 February, with early access available via an official waitlist ahead of the general sale.

Adapted from T S Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, the musical unfolds over a single night as the Jellicle cats gather for their annual Jellicle Ball.

At the heart of it is a simple question: which cat will be chosen for rebirth? The story introduces a parade of distinct personalities, including the rebellious Rum Tum Tugger, the illusionist Mr Mistoffelees and the ever-memorable Grizabella.

Since its West End debut in 1981, Cats has become one of the most successful musicals in theatre history. The production has won seven Tony Awards and two Laurence Olivier Awards, and continues to tour internationally.

Chantal Prudhomme, CEO of event organiser Base Entertainment Asia, said the show’s appeal continues to span generations, adding that the team is looking forward to welcoming both returning theatre-goers and first-time audiences when Cats opens in Singapore this October.
