Maxis Berhad has announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary has provided an additional shareholder advance of RM202 million to Digital Nasional Berhad to support the company’s 5G operations.
The group said the additional shareholder advance was made on April 29 and will be used to facilitate DNB’s ongoing 5G rollout, including the acquisition of additional spectrum.
It said the advance will not bear any interest, is not repayable on demand, and carries the same rights as an ordinary shareholder in DNB, with each ringgit of the advance entitled to one vote.
The RM202 million injection forms part of a coordinated funding arrangement involving Maxis Broadband, CelcomDigi Berhad and YTL Communications, with each party contributing an equal amount of RM202 million, representing 33.33 per cent each of the additional shareholder advance.
Following the contribution, each of the three private sector shareholders — CelcomDigi, Maxis Broadband and YTL — will hold a total investment exposure of RM552.03 million in DNB, equivalent to a 22.94 per cent proportion each.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Finance Inc. (MoF Inc.) remains DNB’s largest stakeholder with a total amount of RM750.3 million, representing a 31.18 per cent proportion. MoF Inc. did not participate in the latest funding round after exercising its put option on Dec 1, 2025.
Maxis said the additional funding is not expected to have any material effect on its earnings per share, net assets per share or gearing for the financial year ending 2026.
The company noted that the move follows a series of earlier announcements related to its proposed investment in DNB dating back to December 2023, as Malaysia continues efforts to strengthen nationwide 5G infrastructure and accelerate digital connectivity.
