Gains in heavyweight counters led by Nestle (M) Bhd and Hong Leong Bank Bhd lifted sentiment on Bursa Malaysia at the close of the trading session on May 7, with gainers comfortably outnumbering losers.
Market breadth remained positive with 660 gainers against 582 decliners, while 592 counters were unchanged, 817 untraded and nine suspended.
Nestlé jumped RM3.20 to RM104.10 to top the gainers’ list, while Hong Leong Bank rose 48 sen to RM22.60. Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd advanced 92 sen to RM30.02, Allianz Malaysia Bhd gained 62 sen to RM21.42 and UMS Integration Limited climbed 54 sen to RM7.37.
On the downside, Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd was the biggest loser, tumbling 59 sen to RM5.28 amid heavy trading activity. MISC Bhd fell 31 sen to RM8.37, while Gas Malaysia Bhd declined 20 sen to RM5.30.
Other notable laggards included Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd, which slipped 18 sen to RM41.22, and Bintulu Port Holdings Bhd, down 15 sen to RM5.50.
