The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) is calling on more companies and organisations to join the Ihsan Food Bank (i-FB) initiative as strategic partners to help reduce food waste and support vulnerable communities.
Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said participation can be channelled through the i-FB Secretariat, which is coordinated by the National Cost of Living Action Council (NACCOL) under KPDN.
Launched in December 2025, the i-FB initiative is part of efforts to strengthen the Malaysia Food Bank Programme through three core objectives — supporting communities, protecting the environment and rescuing surplus food.
Armizan said the initiative encourages businesses and the public to channel excess food to those in need while helping reduce food waste that would otherwise end up in landfills.
As part of the programme, QSR Brands (M) Holdings Bhd has launched the i-FB@KFC project, which collects unsold food from KFC outlets and redistributes it to eligible beneficiaries through NGOs and community organisations.
The pilot phase will involve 10 KFC outlets in Sabah, supported by 10 NGOs and institutions responsible for managing and distributing the rescued food.
Armizan said the project would be expanded nationwide, involving more KFC outlets and strategic partners.
He added that stronger collaboration between the government, private sector and community groups is crucial to easing living costs, supporting vulnerable groups and tackling food wastage.
