Selangor is strengthening the nation’s integrated circuit (IC) design talent development in Malaysia via its new initiative, the ChampionCHIP eXperience Malaysia Edition.
The initiative, developed in collaboration with Brazil’s ChipInventor, will train 300 STEM students from diploma to postgraduate level using a cloud-based electronic design automation platform focused on IC design skills.
Selangor Executive Councillor for Investment, Trade and Mobility Ng Sze Han said the initiative is designed to address the shortage of specialised IC design talent in the semiconductor ecosystem, which remains a key constraint in the global supply chain.
“Participants will be trained in digital logic, Register-Transfer Level design and hardware validation using AWS FPGA systems, before presenting their work at the Selangor AI & Semiconductor Summit 2026,” he shared, while emphasising that the initiative is part of Selangor’s broader industrial strategy to build international collaboration networks and strengthen capability in high-value semiconductor segments.
He highlighted that the initiative supports Malaysia’s National Semiconductor Strategy target of developing 60,000 semiconductor talents, with a strong emphasis on IC design as a critical segment of the industry.
