Anwar Calls For A United, Forward-Looking ASEAN

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for ASEAN member states to remain united, agile and forward-looking in facing growing global uncertainties.

In a social media posting, Anwar said the regional bloc must strengthen collective action in addressing geopolitical tensions, energy security, food supply resilience and global supply chain stability to safeguard regional peace and prosperity.

He stressed the importance of enhancing regional connectivity through initiatives such as the ASEAN Power Grid, expanding intra-ASEAN trade, accelerating digital economic cooperation and strengthening strategic partnerships with trusted partners.

Anwar also said ASEAN must continue to uphold dialogue, respect for international law and peaceful resolution of disputes amid rising global instability.

He warned that ASEAN “cannot merely remain an observer” at a time when humanitarian values and global stability are increasingly under pressure, adding that the bloc must play a stronger role in building confidence, promoting fairer economic growth and ensuring a more peaceful and sustainable future for the region.
