Marcos Urges BIMP-EAGA Leaders To Expand PPP Push Under Vision 2035 Growth Plan

Philippines President Ferdinand R Marcos Jr has called on leaders of the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) to accelerate public-private partnerships (PPPs) as the sub-region adopts its Vision 2035 development roadmap.

Marcos said stronger PPP participation will help fast-track high-impact infrastructure projects across the sub-region, particularly in the Philippines’ Mindanao region, which remains a key focus area under the cooperation framework.

He cited ongoing efforts by the Mindanao Development Authority to facilitate PPP initiatives, including priority projects such as the Laguindingan Airport development and the Mindanao-Visayas interconnection grid, as examples of investable infrastructure that can support regional growth.

The call comes following the adoption of the BIMP-EAGA Vision 2035, a 10-year strategic framework aligned with ASEAN long-term goals, aimed at strengthening connectivity, food and energy security, digital transformation and sustainability across the sub-region.

BIMP-EAGA, established in 1994, is positioned as a single production base to integrate member economies into regional and global value chains while promoting trade, tourism and investment in less-developed and geographically remote areas.

Marcos reaffirmed the Philippines’ commitment to advancing BIMP-EAGA as a platform for inclusive growth, resilience and regional stability, with PPPs seen as a key driver in translating the Vision 2035 agenda into implementation.
