Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim held separate bilateral meetings with Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and Lao PDR Prime Minister Dr Sonexay Siphandone on the sidelines of the BIMP-EAGA Special Summit in Cebu, Philippines, focusing on strengthening regional economic cooperation and strategic ties.
In a statement shared on X, Anwar said the meeting with Laos centred on expanding strategic cooperation in the fields of economy, defence and education, alongside efforts to enhance regional logistics integration through the ASEAN Express network.
He also noted discussions on strengthening regional energy cooperation to support long-term stability, reflecting shared interest in more resilient and connected supply chains across ASEAN.
During his meeting with Singapore’s Lawrence Wong, both leaders discussed accelerating the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) and ensuring the Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link is operational by the end of 2026.
The talks also covered expansion of cooperation in renewable energy and green technology, as well as continued negotiations on outstanding bilateral matters including border arrangements, water supply and airspace coordination.
Anwar said both sides also exchanged views on broader geopolitical concerns, including the need for a ceasefire in the Middle East and the importance of ensuring stability in the Strait of Hormuz.
He added that the engagements reinforced Malaysia’s commitment to advancing regional integration and economic cooperation while maintaining peace and stability within ASEAN.
The bilateral meetings took place alongside Malaysia’s participation in the BIMP-EAGA Special Summit, where Anwar also presented the Vision BIMP-EAGA 2035 framework aimed at driving sustainable growth, trade expansion and greater connectivity across the subregion.
