Toyota Launches Locally Assembled Yaris Cross With ICE And Hybrid Options

UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd has introduced the locally assembled Toyota Yaris Cross in Malaysia, expanding its B-SUV lineup with both internal combustion engine (ICE) and hybrid electric (HEV) variants.

Priced from RM99,900 for the ICE model and RM109,900 for the hybrid, the Yaris Cross strengthens Toyota’s dual-pathway strategy, offering buyers a choice between conventional efficiency and electrified driving.

The hybrid variant pairs a 2NR-VEX engine with an electric motor, delivering a combined 111 PS. It supports electric-only operation at low speeds, improving fuel efficiency and reducing emissions in urban conditions, while retaining full cargo usability through a battery layout positioned under the rear seats.

The ICE variant, meanwhile, uses Toyota’s 2NR-VE engine with a CVT gearbox, prioritising smooth drivability and lower ownership costs.

Despite its compact footprint, the model offers 471 litres of boot space, supported by a dual-level cargo floor and underfloor storage. A higher seating position improves road visibility for urban driving.

Inside, it features a 10.1-inch infotainment display with wireless smartphone connectivity, a seven-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, rear USB-C ports and a kick-activated powered tailgate. A panoramic view monitor is included for low-speed manoeuvring.

Safety remains a central priority in the development of the Yaris Cross; hence, the model is covered by Toyota Safety Sense, which includes lane assistance, pre-collision support and night driving aid, complemented by blind spot monitor and rear cross traffic alert.

UMW Toyota President Datuk Ravindran K highlighted that the B-SUV segment continues to gain momentum as more Malaysians look for vehicles that can support their daily needs with greater flexibility and confidence.

“With the Yaris Cross, we are expanding our hybrid offering with a solution that is practical and reliable, backed by the trust and dependability that Toyota delivers,” he added, while sharing that the Yaris Cross is locally assembled in Bukit Raja, marking Toyota’s continued push to localise production while expanding its electrified SUV offering in Malaysia.
