Sunway Secures Twelfth Consecutive Year Of Success At Cambridge Awards

Sunway College Kuala Lumpur, Sunway College Johor Bahru and Sunway International School Kuala Lumpur have maintained their strong showing at the May 2026 Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards, with 17 students earning 19 distinctions across Cambridge International A Level, AS Level and Cambridge IGCSE examinations.

The awards included Top in Malaysia, Top in the World, Best Across Three, Best Across Four and High Achievement, reflecting a broad spread of strong performances across subjects and levels.

Ruth Cheah, Director of Programme for the Cambridge GCE A-Level programme at Sunway College, said the results go beyond grades.

“What excites us most is not only what they have achieved today, but the possibilities they now carry forward into the world,” she stated, adding that the students’ achievements point to future thinkers, innovators and leaders.

One of the standout performers, Chew Lay Onn from Sunway College, followed up his success at the November 2025 ceremony with Top in Malaysia for A Level Chemistry and Best Across Three for A Level, placing him first in the country.

He said his AS Level results gave him a stronger foundation for A2 and helped him approach his final year with more confidence and less pressure. He also said his interest in the fundamental laws of the universe continues to guide his ambition to pursue theoretical physics.

Other Sunway College students also secured Top in Malaysia results at AS Level. These included Nicholas Chan Hong Jun for Computer Science, Lim Jia Qi for Law, and Elizabeth Abraham George, Kai Lee Synn Wei and Tan Cheau Huei for Literature in English.

Aidan Wong Li Soong achieved Best Across Four for AS Level, ranking first in Malaysia, while Darrell James Puvan received a High Achievement award for A Level Literature in English.

At the international level, several students received Top in the World awards. These went to Lynn Wai Yan for AS Level History, as well as Gan Khai Jer, Hew Yu Jie, Kenji Chan and Low Seng Kwan for AS Level Mathematics. Lynn Wai Yan also earned the distinction for a second subject, while Tara Fukagawa received Top in the World for A Level Psychology.

From Sunway College Johor Bahru, Chee Wei You was named Top in Malaysia for A Level Computer Science, with Lai Zi Xuan achieving the same for A Level Economics. At Sunway International School Kuala Lumpur, Wataru Harano earned Top in Malaysia for Cambridge IGCSE History.

Sunway’s latest results mark its 12th consecutive year of recognition at the Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards, underlining its continued presence among high-performing Cambridge institutions in the region.
