Selangor To Speed Up Construction Of Petaling Jaya Hospital After Site Approval

Selangor is moving ahead with the construction of the long-awaited Petaling Jaya Hospital after the Health Ministry (MOH) agreed to a proposed site for the 500-bed public healthcare facility aimed at easing congestion in the densely populated Petaling district.

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the agreement followed a coordination meeting on May 14 involving federal, state and local authorities, marking a major step forward in efforts to improve public healthcare access in Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya and Puchong.

Amirudin highlighted that the selected site meets key requirements including accessibility, land cost, capacity and proximity to residents, while allowing the hospital to be developed using a vertical concept similar to Hospital Ampang to optimise land use and construction costs.

“The state government has been actively searching for a suitable site for the hospital since 2018 amid rapid population growth in the Petaling district, which now has about 2.3 million residents, including over 800,000 in Petaling Jaya alone.

“Currently, residents depend heavily on existing facilities such as Hospital Sungai Buloh, Hospital Shah Alam and University Malaya Medical Centre, which continue to face capacity pressures,” he said.

Amirudin emphasised that state agencies, including the Selangor Economic Planning Unit, Petaling Jaya City Council and the Petaling District Office, will work closely with MOH to expedite land-related processes and accelerate the project’s implementation.
