Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has directed that the development of government digital services be managed internally to safeguard data security, sovereignty and strategic control over critical digital infrastructure.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the decision requires digital service development across government agencies to be coordinated by the Ministry of Digital, particularly through the National Digital Department.
He said the move takes into account security considerations, data sovereignty and the need for direct government access to source codes and system development capabilities.
Fahmi added that the approach would also strengthen technical expertise within the civil service while reducing reliance on external vendors for the development of key government digital systems.
