Negeri Sembilan Assembly Dissolved, State Election Set In Motion

The Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly has been officially dissolved, paving the way for the state’s upcoming election and making it the second state after Johor to head to the polls.

Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun announced the dissolution during a special press conference at his official residence, ending weeks of speculation over the timing of the move.

He said the dissolution was carried out after receiving consent from Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir during an audience at Istana Besar Seri Menanti.

The official notice of dissolution will be submitted to the Election Commission of Malaysia, which will announce key dates including nomination day, the campaign period, early voting and polling day.

Aminuddin said Pakatan Harapan would contest all 36 state seats, with the allocation among component parties to be announced next week.

“We feel it is necessary to obtain a fresh mandate from the people, so I leave it to the people to determine the future of this state,” he said.

The Negeri Sembilan assembly consists of 36 seats. In the 2023 state election, Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional formed the state government after securing a combined 31 seats. Pakatan Harapan won 17 seats while Barisan Nasional captured 14. Perikatan Nasional secured the remaining five seats.

Aminuddin said the dissolution was conducted in accordance with the provisions of the state constitution and was necessary to address political uncertainty in Negeri Sembilan.

The move follows Johor’s dissolution of its state assembly earlier this week, signalling the start of another closely watched electoral contest.
