The government has assured that no public healthcare facilities, including Segamat Hospital in Johor, will be shut down, with Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad dismissing claims of service suspension as misinformation.
He said the situation at Segamat Hospital was driven by service pressure due to a high volume of patients, but stressed that all hospital services remain operational.
“In such situations, inpatients will continue to receive treatment, while outpatients may be referred to the nearest healthcare facilities to ensure continuity of care,” he said, adding that the Health Ministry has activated a cluster crisis management mechanism to manage patient flow.
Dr Dzulkefly emphasised that there is no closure of services at the hospital, including its obstetrics and gynaecology department, underscoring that patient care remains the government’s top priority.
“There is no closure of services and this is important because patient care cannot be compromised. The hospital remains operational,” he said.
The clarification follows social media claims that Segamat Hospital would cease operations on July 1, which were dismissed by Johor Health director Dr Mohtar Pungut@Ahmad, who confirmed that the facility continues to operate as usual.
The ministry reiterated that all public hospitals remain open and any operational pressures are being managed through established healthcare coordination protocols.
