Govt Provides RM1 Million Aid To Underprivileged Medical Students

The government has allocated an additional RM1 million to support underprivileged students pursuing their studies at AIMST University, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring access to higher education for those from low-income families.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the funding would be used to strengthen financial assistance for students, particularly those facing economic hardship.

“The Federal Government will ensure that the poorest students at this university continue to receive guaranteed assistance. Therefore, I am adding RM1 million specifically for that purpose,” he said.

The announcement comes a week after the government introduced a RM100 book voucher for every secondary school and university student nationwide.

At the ceremony, AIMST University received its annual government grant of RM25 million.

Meanwhile, Anwar said Malaysia’s economy remains resilient despite global challenges, citing the country’s lowest unemployment rate and record-high investment performance.

While welcoming the positive economic indicators, he stressed the need to remain focused on strengthening education.

“Education is one of the key challenges we must address to ensure continued excellence,” he said.

Anwar added that education remains a vital instrument for improving the wellbeing of the rakyat and building the nation’s future, which is why it continues to receive the largest allocation in the federal budget each year.
