A hot and humid day is set to give way to thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds in six states as the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) issued a weather warning valid until 5pm today.
The affected areas are Larut, Matang dan Selama, Hulu Perak and Kuala Kangsar in Perak; Jeli and Tanah Merah in Kelantan; Hulu Terengganu and Dungun in Terengganu; Cameron Highlands and Bentong in Pahang; as well as Mersing, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru in Johor.
In East Malaysia, the warning covers Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Mukah, Bintulu and Miri in Sarawak, as well as Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran, Kota Belud and Kota Marudu in Sabah.
MetMalaysia said the warning was issued following indications of thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour, which are expected to last for more than an hour.
Members of the public are advised to remain vigilant and keep track of the latest weather updates, as heavy downpours may trigger flash floods and hazardous driving conditions in affected areas.
