Shin Yang Group Berhad has initiated legal action against Petroschiff Marine Logistics Sdn. Bhd. to recover nearly RM3 million in alleged unpaid charter hire and related costs.
The company said its wholly owned subsidiary, Shin Yang Shipping Sdn. Bhd., filed a writ and statement of claim in the High Court of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur on May 21, 2026.
The lawsuit seeks recovery of outstanding charter hire payments, unpaid service tax and repair costs arising from a series of written charterparty agreements and addenda between the parties.
The claim relates to six sets of tugboats and barges chartered to the defendant.
According to the statement of claim, Shin Yang Shipping is seeking RM2.96 million comprising unpaid charter hire charges, outstanding service tax and repair expenses.
The largest component of the claim involves RM954,979.20 allegedly owed for the charter of Tug Danum 82 and Barge Linau 92 between May 2025 and March 2026.
The company is also seeking interest at a rate of 5% per annum from the date of judgment until full settlement, as well as legal costs and any additional relief deemed appropriate by the court.
Shin Yang said the defendant entered appearance in the suit on June 8, with the memorandum of appearance subsequently received by the plaintiff’s solicitors on the same day.
The company added that it will continue pursuing the claim through its legal counsel to safeguard its interests.
