Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) President and Group Chief Executive Officer Captain Nasaruddin A Bakar has been appointed to the Board of Governors (BoG) of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), strengthening Malaysia’s representation in global aviation leadership.
The appointment was confirmed during the 82nd IATA AGM in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he will serve a three-year term until 2029, contributing to strategic oversight, policy direction and committee guidance for the global airline body.
Captain Nasaruddin said the role comes at a pivotal time for the aviation industry and he looks forward to contributing to efforts that strengthen resilience, drive innovation and advance sustainability in global air transport.
Beyond MAG, Captain Nasaruddin also serves as Chairman of the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines Executive Committee and is a member of the oneworld Governance Board.
With more than three decades in aviation, where he began his career with Malaysia Airlines, he has held senior leadership roles across safety, innovation and industry collaboration, including work with regional aviation safety and innovation initiatives.
