Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on the people of Johor to continue supporting a political approach centred on accountability, justice and compassion as the state prepares for the upcoming Johor state election.
In a statement shared on social media, Anwar said the struggle was not merely about winning elections, but about determining whether Malaysia would continue with an old political system associated with division, hatred and abuse of power, or move towards a new order built on principles of good governance and responsibility.
“Our struggle has never been solely about winning elections. It is a platform to decide whether Malaysia will continue to be driven by old politics filled with hatred and abuse of power, or move forward as a system rooted in accountability, justice and care for the majority of the people,” he said.
The Prime Minister said the government had demonstrated that its reform agenda was more than just a slogan, citing efforts to strengthen governance, combat leakages, increase investment and restore global confidence in Malaysia.
However, he acknowledged that much work remained to be done, adding that improvements were still needed in various areas affecting the people.
“The journey is still long and far from perfect. There is still much to correct, many people who need to be supported and cared for, many voices that need to be heard, and many gaps in the system that must be addressed,” he said.
Anwar urged Johoreans to remain committed to what he described as the “politics of hope” — a political approach that promotes unity, cooperation and compassion.
“With the support of the people, we will continue to work harder to elevate the country’s standing and ensure Malaysia emerges as a strong, fair and dignified nation,” he added.
The upcoming Johor state election is expected to be a key political contest, with parties from both sides of the aisle seeking voter support amid ongoing debates on governance, economic development and public welfare.
