ECM Libra Group announced that Dato’ Seri Kalimullah Masheerul Hassan has relinquished his position as Alternate Director to Akil Hassan Kalimullah, effective immediately following the conclusion of the company’s 21st Annual General Meeting held on June 16, 2026.
The company said the change involved Dato’ Seri Kalimullah stepping down from his role as Alternate Director while Akil Hassan continues in his capacity as a Non-Independent Non-Executive Director of ECMLG.
Dato’ Seri Kalimullah, 68, has had a long career spanning journalism, business and corporate leadership. He began his career in journalism in 1979 before moving into business in 1995, subsequently holding senior positions in several Malaysian listed companies.
He was among the co-founders of ECM Libra Berhad in 2002 and previously served as Chief Executive Officer and Executive Chairman of the group.
Throughout his career, Dato’ Seri Kalimullah has also contributed to various public and government-linked organisations, including serving as Chairman of the national news agency Bernama, Deputy Chairman of The New Straits Times Press (Malaysia) Berhad, and a member of several advisory panels and boards.
His past appointments include roles with the National Unity Advisory Panel, Multimedia Development Corporation, and the National Information Technology Council.
The company noted that Dato’ Seri Kalimullah is the father of Akil Hassan and holds a direct interest of 70.56 million ordinary shares in ECMLG.
Following his departure from the alternate director role, Dato’ Seri Kalimullah will continue to focus on charitable initiatives through the ECM Libra Foundation, which was established and funded by him together with business partners Dato’ Chua Ming Huat and Dato’ Lim Kian Onn.
