Malaysia has reaffirmed its support for Türkiye’s aspiration to become an ASEAN Dialogue Partner, underscoring growing strategic and economic ties between Ankara and Southeast Asia.
The pledge was conveyed by Malaysia’s Ambassador to Türkiye, Adlan Mohd Shaffieq, during the presentation of his credentials to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the Presidential Complex in Ankara on June 17.
The Malaysian Embassy in Ankara said Adlan highlighted Türkiye’s growing importance to Southeast Asia through its expanding economic engagement, strategic outlook and strengthening people-to-people ties with ASEAN member states.
The ambassador also conveyed greetings and best wishes from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to Erdoğan.
Adlan reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to further strengthening its long-standing friendship and strategic partnership with Türkiye, particularly in education, defence and the halal industry.
“Malaysia and Türkiye share a special relationship built on trust, mutual respect and common aspirations for peace, prosperity and development,” he said.
He added that the strong personal relationship between Erdoğan and Anwar should be leveraged to deepen bilateral cooperation across all sectors.
Meanwhile, Erdoğan expressed confidence that trade between Malaysia and Türkiye would continue to expand and achieve the bilateral target of US$10 billion.
