99 Speed Mart Retail Holdings Berhad has appointed Dato’ Sivananthan Shanmugam as an Independent Non-Executive Director, effective 1 July 2026.
The appointment marks the company’s move to strengthen its Board with expertise in technology, digital transformation and strategic innovation as the retail group continues to expand its business operations.
Dato’ Sivananthan, 58, is a Malaysian national with more than three decades of executive leadership experience across the information technology and telecommunications industries.
He has held senior leadership positions in several global technology and telecommunications companies, including Nokia, IBM, Nortel Networks, Sapura Telecommunications, Swedtel South East Asia, Tech Mahindra, Alcatel Networks and Maxis.
Previously, he served as Managing Director of Nokia, overseeing operations across Malaysia, Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
Throughout his career, Dato’ Sivananthan has led various digital transformation and corporate initiatives involving cybersecurity, artificial intelligence (AI), strategic planning and business turnaround strategies across the global IT and telecommunications sectors.
He also brings extensive knowledge in emerging technologies including Industry 4.0 and Industry 5.0 solutions, Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, automation, e-commerce, 4G/5G networks and optical communications.
The company said his combination of technical expertise and business leadership experience would support the Board in navigating the evolving retail landscape, particularly in areas involving digitalisation, automation and technology-driven growth.
Dato’ Sivananthan holds a degree in Arts from the University of Malaya.
He currently serves as an Independent Director of two other public listed companies, namely Media Prima Berhad and C.I. Holdings Berhad.
With the appointment, 99 Speed Mart Retail Holdings aims to further enhance its corporate governance framework and strengthen its strategic capabilities as it continues to grow its retail network and operational footprint.
