Malaysia and Bangladesh Seek Solutions For Rohingya Crisis Through ASEAN

Malaysia and Bangladesh have agreed to strengthen cooperation to address the Rohingya refugee crisis through diplomatic channels and ASEAN engagement with Myanmar.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said both countries would continue working through their foreign ministries and ASEAN mechanisms to help resolve the plight of Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh and Malaysia.

“Through joint efforts, we are trying to help resolve the situation of Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh and here in Malaysia,” he said.

Tarique thanked Malaysia for its continued support in pursuing the safe and dignified repatriation of Rohingya refugees to Myanmar.

The Rohingya crisis was among the key issues discussed by the two leaders, alongside regional cooperation involving ASEAN.

Anwar said Malaysia and Bangladesh also shared similar views on the situation in Gaza and Palestine, condemning the suffering of civilians and supporting efforts towards lasting peace in the region.

“We are aligned on these issues and will continue engaging with partners to ensure peace can be achieved,” he said.
