Shah Alam LRT3 To Start Operation From June 29, Says Transport Minister

The long-awaited Shah Alam Light Rail Transit Line 3 (LRT3) is set to commence operations on June 29, according to Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

The announcement marks a major milestone for the public transport project, which has faced multiple delays since its initial development phase.

Loke said the opening of the LRT3 line would enhance connectivity across the western Klang Valley, providing commuters with a new rail-based transport option linking key areas including Shah Alam, Klang and Petaling Jaya.

The LRT3, also known as the Shah Alam Line, is expected to improve travel efficiency for residents by reducing reliance on private vehicles and easing congestion along major road corridors.

The line spans approximately 37 kilometres and features 26 stations, connecting passengers from Bandar Utama through Shah Alam to Johan Setia in Klang.

The project was initially planned as part of Malaysia’s wider urban rail expansion programme, aimed at strengthening public transportation infrastructure and supporting growing urban populations.

However, the development experienced several delays due to cost reviews, project restructuring and implementation challenges.

The government previously revised the project scope to optimise costs while maintaining the core objectives of improving public transport accessibility.

With the start of operations, commuters are expected to benefit from improved links to existing rail networks, including connections to the MRT Kajang Line and other integrated public transport services.

The Transport Ministry said the launch of LRT3 would support efforts to encourage greater use of public transport while contributing to lower traffic congestion and improved mobility within the Klang Valley.

Further details on fares, operating schedules and passenger services are expected to be announced ahead of the official commencement date.
