The government has allocated RM25 million for the installation of 3,000 solar-powered LED lights at locations identified as high-risk areas in an effort to improve public safety and prevent untoward incidents.
Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the initiative aims to enhance visibility, particularly at areas with insufficient lighting, which could pose safety risks to road users and surrounding communities.
He said the installation of the solar LED lights would focus on locations deemed vulnerable, including areas with poor lighting conditions and places requiring additional safety measures.
The initiative is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen road infrastructure and create a safer environment for the public.
Nanta said the use of solar-powered lighting would also provide a more sustainable and cost-effective solution, reducing reliance on conventional electricity supply while ensuring continuous illumination.
The Works Ministry will identify suitable locations for the installation, prioritising areas based on safety assessments and public needs.
The move is expected to contribute towards reducing risks associated with poorly lit areas, including accidents and security concerns.
