The Owens sisters are back, with the family curse plaguing them once again. Nearly three decades after the original where Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman have spellbound viewers in “Practical Magic” amidst the many sorcery-themed media of the 90s, which balances supernatural forces, dark romance, and the power of sisterhood that made the original film a cult classic.
Directed by Susanne Bier, the Oscar- and Emmy-winning Danish filmmaker behind “In a Better World,” “Bird Box,” “The Night Manager,” “The Undoing,” and “The Perfect Couple,” Practical Magic 2” once again centers on Sally and Gillian Owens, played by Bullock and Kidman, as they confront the dark curse that threatens to unravel their family once and for all, even more so when Sally’s oldest daughter Kylie exhibits powers of her own. Together, the Owens family must once again unite, traveling from their home in Massachusetts to the United Kingdom to confront the source of their magic and save the next generation of their family.
This time around, the cast also includes Joey King and Maisie Williams as Sally’s daughters Kylie and Antonia respectively, Lee Pace as Ian Wright, Sally’s new love interest, Xolo Maridueña, Solly McLeod, and Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing as Sally and Gillian’s eccentric aunts Bridget “Jet” and Frances Owens.
Directed by Academy Award nominated and Emmy winning director Susanne Bier, with the script written by Academy Award nominee Akiva Goldsman, Emmy Award winner Georgia Pritchett, and BAFTA nominee Kelly Marcel, adapted from Alice Hoffman’s 2021 work “The Book of Magic”. Producers include Denise DiNovi, Bullock, and Kidman, with Donald Sabourin, Hoffman, Andrew A. Kosove, and Broderick Johnson serving as executive producers.
Practical Magic 2 opens only in theatres this September 11th, just in time for the fall season.
