Extreme Weather Expected In Sabah, Sarawak And Labuan

Heavy rain, lightning and strong winds are expected to sweep across parts of Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan, before midday today, prompting a thunderstorm warning as unsettled weather continues to build over the region.

In an advisory issued at 8:55 am on June 28, 2026, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) signals a heightened risk of disruptive weather across several key regions, including Serian in Sarawak, as well as the Interior, West Coast and Kudat divisions of Sabah. Kuala Penyu and Beaufort are among the specific districts expected to be affected, alongside the Federal Territory of Labuan.

Forecasters expect storm activity to bring periods of intense rainfall accompanied by lightning and gusty winds. The conditions may lead to localised flooding, reduced visibility on roads, and intermittent disruption to travel and outdoor activity, particularly in low-lying or poorly drained areas.

The warning remains in effect until noon local time, with MetMalaysia monitoring developments closely as atmospheric conditions continue to support thunderstorm formation.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to remain alert to changing weather conditions and exercise caution when travelling, as storm intensity may vary throughout the morning. Further updates will be issued should the situation escalate or persist beyond the current forecast period.
