ELSA Expands Into Malaysia, Targets Workplace Communication Skills

AI-powered English communication platform ELSA has entered the Malaysian market, targeting workplace communication challenges rather than basic language proficiency as organisations seek to improve employee performance in business settings.

The San Francisco-based company, which has more than 90 million users worldwide, said Malaysian employees generally possess strong English proficiency but often face difficulties communicating effectively in situations such as client presentations, negotiations and cross-border meetings.

To support its expansion, ELSA has appointed K-Pintar Sdn Bhd and Cedar Tech Training Sdn Bhd as its authorised partners in Malaysia following a signing ceremony on June 24.

Vice President of Revenue Will Polese said the platform uses artificial intelligence to personalise learning based on each user’s native language and proficiency level, with users able to choose an AI coach and preferred British or American accent.

“The platform assesses each user’s native language and proficiency level before generating a personalised learning path. Users select an AI coach by gender and preferred accent, either American or British, with daily recommended sessions of approximately 15 minutes.

“Feedback on the platform goes down to the finest detail. A mispronounced sound is flagged immediately and the correct articulation is demonstrated,” he said.

ELSA said its learning content aligns with TOEFL, IELTS and Cambridge English standards while allowing organisations to convert their own training materials into AI-powered e-learning modules. The platform also includes more than 8,000 industry-specific modules spanning sectors such as aviation, healthcare, manufacturing, hospitality and financial services.

The company said it currently serves more than 1,300 organisations globally across markets including Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand, with the platform available via subscription on both mobile and desktop devices.
