Illumination and Universal’s Minions & Monsters has opened to a US$62.6M global box office total across its first days of release, according to Deadline, as the film rolls out across the U.S. and international markets .
The film began its domestic run on Wednesday with US$14.23M, followed by US$10.8M on Thursday, bringing its North American total to around US$25M so far. The early performance places it behind recent franchise peaks but still within the expected range for the Illumination “Minions” universe.
Audience reception has been steady, with an A- CinemaScore suggesting strong initial word-of-mouth. The midweek pattern also shows a typical easing from Wednesday to Thursday of about 24%, similar to the trajectory seen in earlier franchise entries.
In terms of ranking, the film currently sits in third place domestically behind Toy Story 5 and DC’s Supergirl, both of which continue to dominate the top of the box office chart this week.
Internationally, the film has added US$37.6M so far, with strong early turnout across multiple territories including Germany, Spain and the UK. From what Deadline reported, it has also led openings in several European markets, with additional rollout continuing across more than 70 territories in the coming days.
The performance is being driven by broad family appeal and an established franchise base. RelishMix reported a pre-release social reach of nearly 800M across platforms, reflecting the continued online traction of the Minions universe ahead of release.
With the July 4 holiday period underway in the U.S., box office momentum is expected to fluctuate over the weekend. Studios typically see a short-term boost during the holiday window, followed by a dip as audiences shift to travel and seasonal events.
