This is a classic knockout clash between a fairytale side trying to extend their story and a heavyweight that looks built for another deep World Cup run.
Paraguay have already stunned Germany in one of the biggest surprises of the tournament, doing it through structure, discipline and ruthless efficiency. France, meanwhile, arrive unbeaten and in control, with Didier Deschamps’ side looking more complete with every round. The question is whether Paraguay’s resilience can hold up again against a far more clinical and varied attacking machine.
Adrian’s thought
Adrian sees this as Paraguay’s toughest test yet after their shock win over Germany. Gustavo Alfaro’s side have built their identity on defensive organisation, compact lines and fast counter-attacks, with Miguel Almirón’s energy and Julio Enciso’s direct running providing their main attacking outlets.
But Adrian believes France are a different level compared to anyone Paraguay have faced. Les Bleus are not only defensively solid but also patient and methodical in possession, meaning they are unlikely to be frustrated by a low block for long periods. With Kylian Mbappé leading the attack and Aurélien Tchouaméni controlling midfield tempo, France have both the quality and structure to break Paraguay down.
Adrian feels Paraguay may resist for parts of the game, but the constant pressure and attacking depth of France should eventually tell.
Adrian prediction: France 3-1 Paraguay

Rizal’s thought
Rizal views this match as the point where Paraguay’s incredible run meets reality against elite opposition.
He gives full credit to Gustavo Alfaro’s team for reaching this stage, especially after bouncing back from an early heavy defeat to the United States. Paraguay have been extremely disciplined, sitting deep, defending compactly and relying on goalkeeper performances and counter-attacks to survive. That approach even helped them eliminate Germany on penalties.
However, Rizal believes France are a completely different challenge.
Unlike Germany, France are comfortable against low blocks and do not lose patience in possession. Didier Deschamps’ side can recycle the ball endlessly, stretch defences through movement and create chances from multiple angles. With Mbappé, Ousmane Dembélé, Michael Olise and Désiré Doué offering different attacking threats, Paraguay’s defensive shape will be tested constantly.
Rizal also expects France to dominate midfield through Aurélien Tchouaméni and Adrien Rabiot, limiting Paraguay’s ability to transition through Miguel Almirón and Diego Gómez.
He adds that Paraguay’s lack of consistent goals makes it difficult to see them responding if France take control early.
Rizal prediction: France 3-0 Paraguay
Combined view
Both Adrian and Rizal agree that Paraguay’s structure and discipline could make the opening stages competitive, but France’s depth, patience and attacking variety are likely to take over as the match progresses, with Les Bleus expected to eventually secure a comfortable place in the quarter-finals.
