Bursa Malaysia opened the new trading week on a mixed but steady note on Monday, with the FBM KLCI edging up 1.65 points to 1,680.70 in early trade as gains in selected heavyweight counters helped offset weakness across broader market segments.
At 9.43am, the benchmark index traded between 1,678.37 and 1,683.08, reflecting cautious sentiment as investors assessed regional cues and commodity movements at the start of the week.
Broader market performance was uneven, with the FBMT100 up marginally 0.02% to 12,286.11, while the FBMEMAS edged higher 0.01% to 12,458.48, suggesting limited upside momentum across large-cap counters.
However, mid- and small-cap segments were softer. The FBM70 slipped 0.20% to 17,805.13, while the FBMSCAP fell 0.14% to 15,509.79, indicating some profit-taking in broader equities after recent gains.
Sector performance was also mixed. The Energy index declined 0.10% to 757.83, while Consumer Products and Services slipped 0.12% to 498.97. The Construction index eased 0.08% to 279.39, reflecting cautious positioning in cyclical sectors.
In early active trading, speculative counters dominated volume, with TANCO unchanged at 0.175, SRIDGE down to 0.185, and AMS rising to 0.475. EIPOWER and NEXGRAM also saw active participation among retail-driven stocks.
On the gainers’ list, UTDPLT led advances at RM33.36, followed by PETDAG at RM19.40 and KLCC at RM8.99, supported by defensive buying in plantation, energy-linked and REIT-related counters. HEIM also edged higher at RM19.38.
Meanwhile, top decliners included MPI, NESTLE, KGB, PANAMY and VITROX, reflecting mild selling pressure in technology and consumer-related names despite the overall steady tone of the benchmark.
