Malaysia is set to strengthen its position as a regional healthcare and medical technology powerhouse when eight homegrown companies showcase their innovations at the International Healthcare Week (IHW) 2026 in Bangkok, a strategic move expected to unlock new export opportunities, deepen international partnerships and build momentum ahead of Kuala Lumpur’s hosting of IHW 2027.
Led by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), Malaysia’s participation at the three-day exhibition from July 8 to 10 will feature a dedicated Malaysian Pavilion alongside the inaugural Malaysia Healthcare Day forum, reinforcing the country’s growing influence across the global healthcare value chain.
According to MATRADE Chief Executive Officer Abu Bakar Yusof, the Malaysian Pavilion will highlight a broad portfolio of locally developed healthcare solutions, including airway management and respiratory devices such as endotracheal tubes, prefilled humidifiers, inhaler spacers and scope laryngoscopes.
“The showcase will also feature laboratory diagnostics, blood collection tubes, stainer systems, specialised wound dressings, reusable cooling pads, external urinary catheters, branded off-patent pharmaceuticals and soy-based health supplements.
“The Malaysia Healthcare Day forum, meanwhile, will serve as the official regional curtain-raiser for IHW 2027, which Kuala Lumpur will host. The forum is expected to bring together policymakers, regulators, medical distributors and industry leaders to exchange insights, foster commercial collaborations and showcase Malaysia’s readiness to welcome the global healthcare community next year,” Abu Bakar said.
He highlighted that Malaysia’s presence in Bangkok is intended to demonstrate the country’s expanding capabilities in the medical and healthcare sector while elevating the international profile of local manufacturers.
“The outstanding global trust in Malaysian medical device exports, which reached RM34.54 billion, proves that our local players are capable of delivering world-class efficacy. Bringing these eight local manufacturers together under one pavilion allows us to spotlight the technology and sophistication that delegates can look forward to experiencing firsthand when Malaysia hosts IHW in Kuala Lumpur next year,” he said.
The dual initiative reflects Malaysia’s broader ambition to cement its position not only as a leading ASEAN healthcare hub but also as a key player in the global life sciences industry, underpinned by its strengths in advanced manufacturing, regulatory compliance and digital healthcare development.
Beyond manufacturing, Abu Bakar shared that Malaysia has also strengthened its reputation as a premier medical tourism destination through internationally accredited healthcare facilities, a highly skilled workforce and innovative healthcare services. In 2025, the country’s private healthcare sector welcomed 1.84 million international patients, generating RM3.34 billion in revenue.
By leveraging the Bangkok platform to showcase its technological capabilities and foster cross-border partnerships, Malaysia is positioning itself to convert its growing healthcare strengths into greater export opportunities, stronger regional influence and a successful hosting of IHW 2027 in KL.
