Stock Today: Maybank Rises Over 1% As Banking Stocks Lift Bursa Malaysia

Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) closed higher on Monday as investors continued accumulating banking stocks, helping support Bursa Malaysia’s benchmark index.

The country’s largest lender gained 12 sen, or 1.11%, to RM10.92, after trading between RM10.80 and RM10.94. More than 245.62 million shares changed hands during the session.

The stock outperformed the broader market, with buying interest in financial heavyweights providing support to the FBM KLCI, which opened the week on a firmer footing despite mixed sentiment across regional markets.

Earlier in the day, banking counters helped offset weakness in broader market segments, with investors remaining cautious as they assessed regional developments and commodity price movements.

The latest gain comes after Maybank shares retreated from their 2026 high of RM12.38 recorded in February, with the stock having traded largely below the RM11 level in recent months.

Banking stocks have remained a key pillar of the local benchmark this year, with investors continuing to favour large-cap financial counters for their defensive earnings profile and dividend appeal amid ongoing market volatility.
