LG Electronics Saw Profit Surge 146% In 2Q On Higher CE Product Demand

South Korea’s tech giant LG Electronics posted record-high preliminary earnings for the second quarter, the company said Tuesday.

The preliminary operating profit soared 146.9 percent from a year earlier to 1.58 trillion won (1.04 billion U.S. dollars) in the April-June quarter.

The preliminary revenue advanced 14.9 percent to 23.83 trillion won (15.6 billion dollars) in the cited quarter.

Both the revenue and profit marked the highest for the second quarter in the company’s history.

The record earnings came as the company’s flagship businesses, such as home appliances and TVs, expanded sales amid growing air conditioner sales in overseas markets, offsetting concerns from the Middle East uncertainties, LG explained.

The net income and detailed earnings for each business unit will be unveiled later this month.
