Honda Motor Co Ltd is recalling 325,588 units of its Honda Odyssey in the US over a rearview camera issue that could prevent drivers from seeing the image when reversing, raising the risk of a crash.
Reuters reported that the recall, announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, covers certain 2018 to 2020 model-year Odyssey vehicles sold in the US.
According to the safety regulator, water may enter the rearview camera, causing the system to fail and preventing the rearview image from appearing on the display when the vehicle is placed in reverse.
As part of the recall remedy, authorised dealers will replace the affected rearview cameras at no cost to vehicle owners.
Honda has not indicated that the issue has resulted in any reported crashes or injuries, but the company is addressing the defect as a precautionary safety measure.
The recall adds to ongoing efforts by automakers to address reliability issues involving vehicle camera and electronic systems, which have become increasingly important as rear visibility features become standard safety equipment across modern vehicles.
