Selling pressure weighed on several key counters as investors took profits across selected stocks.
At the closing bell, market breadth was negative, with losers outpacing gainers 627 to 480, while 506 counters were unchanged, 1,078 untraded, and 11 suspended.
Trading activities, however, strengthened, with turnover rising to 2.96 billion units valued at RM2.18 billion compared to 2.69 billion units worth RM2.06 billion recorded on July 7.
UMS Integration Limited emerged as the biggest decliner, falling 32 sen to RM7.80, followed by Petronas Gas Bhd, which slipped 28 sen to RM17.52. Other decliners include Hong Leong Industries Bhd, which declined 26 sen to RM18.68, Pentamaster Corporation Bhd, which shed 19 sen to RM4.54, and MyAxis Group Bhd, which dropped 17 sen to 12 sen.
On the upside, United Plantations Bhd was the top gainer, advancing 60 sen to RM34.34. Allianz Malaysia Bhd gained 38 sen to RM20.98, while Nestlé (M) Bhd added 30 sen to RM91.10.
Other notable gainers included Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd, which rose 22 sen to RM4.47, and Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Bhd, which climbed 16 sen to RM16.46.
