Across industries, organisations are embracing digital technologies to transform the way they operate, compete and grow. The accountancy profession is no exception, with forward-thinking organisations leveraging technology to enhance finance functions, improve decision-making and unlock new opportunities for value creation. From artificial intelligence and automation to data analytics, cloud computing and others, technology is enabling accountants to deliver greater value, improve efficiency and strengthen organisational resilience. Recognising the importance of this evolution, the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) introduced the MIA Digital Tech Award (Award) to celebrate and promote excellence in digital transformation within the accountancy profession.
Formerly known as the Digital Technology Adoption Awards (DTAA), the Award was first launched in 2023 as part of MIA’s ongoing efforts to advance digital adoption within the accountancy profession. The rebranding to the MIA Digital Tech Award continues to reflect focus on recognising impactful digital transformation initiatives and highlighting organisations that are successfully leveraging technology to drive innovation, productivity and sustainable growth.
The Award corresponds with the MIA Digital Technology Blueprint, which was introduced back in 2018 to guide the profession’s response to emerging technologies and digital disruption. One of the Blueprint’s driving principles focuses on harnessing digital technology to future-proof the profession. Through the MIA Digital Tech Award, MIA seeks to showcase exemplary digital transformation journeys that can inspire others to embark on their own digital initiatives.
The Award serves three primary objectives:
- Promoting the need for digital technology adoption through the sharing of success stories.
- Raising awareness of how accountants contribute to organisational growth and economic development through digital technology adoption.
- Recognising digital technology adoption efforts
Continuing from the success of its first edition, the Award aims to serve as an important platform for highlighting innovation that have delivered measurable improvements in efficiency, decision-making, service delivery, and stakeholder value.
Open to organisations across public practice, commerce and industry, and the public sector, the Award recognises technology implementations that centre on the role of the accountancy profession.
In 2026, a new category was also introduced for Institutions of Higher Learning, reflecting the growing importance of nurturing future-ready talent and fostering digital innovation within the education ecosystem.
Beyond recognition, participation in the Award offers valuable benefits. Organisations gain the opportunity to benchmark their digital transformation efforts against industry peers, showcase their achievements to a wider audience, enhance their reputation, and attract new business opportunities and talent. More importantly, participants contribute to a growing body of success stories that encourage greater technology adoption across the profession.
As businesses continue to navigate an increasingly digital economy, embracing technology is no longer optional. The Award provides a platform for organisations to demonstrate leadership in innovation while inspiring others to accelerate their own transformation journeys.
Applications for the Award are open from 9 April to 9 August 2026. Organisations that have successfully implemented digital technologies and achieved meaningful outcomes are encouraged to submit their entries and be recognised for their commitment to innovation, excellence and the future of the profession.
Don’t miss this opportunity to showcase your digital transformation success story and join the growing community of digital leaders shaping the future of accountancy.
