PETRA To Investigate Protest By Community In Kedah Over Energy Project

The Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry (PETRA) will investigate concerns raised by residents in Kedah over the Tenaga Nasional Bhd Kuala Muda Solar project, following a memorandum of protest submitted by the local community.

The ministry said it will coordinate with the Energy Commission to send a technical team to the project site to assess the actual conditions and evaluate concerns raised by the community.

PETRA said the review will cover key aspects including safety, environmental impact, effects on surrounding communities and compliance with project approval requirements.

The ministry acknowledged the community’s right to express views and concerns in an orderly manner and within legal boundaries, while stressing that all objections must be assessed based on facts, comprehensive evaluation and the prevailing regulatory framework.

The memorandum was received by the ministry’s Deputy Secretary-General (Energy) Mareena Mahpudz as part of the ministry’s review of issues highlighted by residents regarding the Kuala Muda solar project.
