FT Minister Says 22 Upgrading Projects Have Been Completed

Upgrade works at PPR Desa Tun Razak costing RM9.6 million have been completed, with 22 out of 61 People’s Housing Programme (PPR) upgrading projects across Kuala Lumpur now finished, Federal Territories Minister Hannah Yeoh said.

Hannah said the completed projects are part of an additional RM300 million allocation approved this year to systematically upgrade all PPR housing in the capital.

She said the allocation, supported by all Kuala Lumpur Members of Parliament, is intended to ensure comprehensive maintenance works, improving the safety and comfort of more than 8,000 residents at PPR Desa Tun Razak, which has been in operation since 1998.

“We do not want maintenance to be carried out on an ad hoc basis. We want a dedicated maintenance fund because while it is easy to build a project, safety will be compromised if there is no allocation for upkeep,” she said.

The project included replacing electrical wiring, resurfacing roads, upgrading fire safety facilities, improving the fire riser system and enhancing drainage infrastructure following several fire incidents at PPRs last year.

Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Fadhlun Mak Ujud said RM7 million of the RM9.6 million project cost was spent on repainting works, RM1.68 million on fire prevention systems and electrical wiring upgrades, and nearly RM1 million on road resurfacing.

He said all 61 PPR upgrading projects under the RM300 million allocation are expected to be completed by the end of this year.

On parking issues at PPR Desa Tun Razak, Fadhlun said Kuala Lumpur City Hall will identify suitable vacant land for temporary parking areas to help ease the shortage of parking spaces.

Meanwhile, Bandar Tun Razak MP Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail urged residents to take care of the upgraded facilities to ensure they continue benefiting the community in the long term.
