Johor is expected to be the only state to experience heavy rain this afternoon, although thunderstorms and strong winds are also forecast in parts of Pahang and Negeri Sembilan, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
MetMalaysia said thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected to affect Segamat, Kluang, Mersing, Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru until 2pm today.
The department also forecast similar weather conditions in Rompin, Pahang, as well as Kuala Pilah, Jempol and Tampin in Negeri Sembilan, though Johor is the only state expected to see widespread heavy rain across several districts this afternoon.
MetMalaysia said the thunderstorm warning is issued when there are signs indicating thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to persist for more than an hour.
It added that thunderstorm warnings are short-term advisories, with each issuance valid for no more than six hours
