The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for parts of Kedah, Perak and Sarawak, with heavy rain and strong winds expected until 12 noon today.
In Kedah, the affected areas are Kota Setar, Yan and Kuala Muda.
The warning also covers Manjung, Perak Tengah, Bagan Datuk and Hilir Perak in Perak.
In Sarawak, the affected areas are Bintulu district, as well as Subis, Beluru, Miri and Marudi in Miri division.
MetMalaysia said the warning is issued when there are indications of thunderstorms capable of producing rainfall exceeding 20 millimetres per hour that are occurring or expected to persist for more than an hour.
The department added that thunderstorm warnings are short-term advisories, with each issuance valid for no more than six hours
