Plantation Stocks Lift Bursa Higher, FBM KLCI Closes Above 1,698

Bursa Malaysia closed higher on Monday, with the benchmark FBM KLCI gaining 6.95 points or 0.41% to 1,698.44 as buying interest emerged in selected heavyweight counters.

The index opened at 1,693.30 and traded between an intraday low of 1,685.74 and a high of 1,703.10. The broader FBM100 index also ended higher, rising 32.27 points or 0.26% to 12,386.60, while the FBMEMAS index added 30.15 points or 0.24% to 12,553.96.

However, mid and small-cap indices ended mixed. The FBM70 index slipped 32.11 points or 0.18% to 17,826.36, while the FBMSCAP index edged down 6.18 points or 0.04% to 15,519.54.

Among sectoral indices, the Energy index was the strongest performer, gaining 4.47 points or 0.58% to 773.29. The Construction index eased 0.09 points to 280.72, while the Consumer Products & Services index fell 2.89 points or 0.57% to 499.96.

Plantation counters featured among the day’s biggest gainers, with United Plantations Bhd rising RM0.76 to RM35.02, followed by Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd which added RM0.28 to RM21.88. SD Guthrie Bhd climbed RM0.21 to RM6.45.

The most actively traded stock was Tanco Holdings Bhd, which surged RM0.045 to RM0.24 with 3.56 billion shares traded. Zetrix AI Bhd and VS Industry Bhd were also among the most active counters, gaining RM0.015 each to RM0.765 and RM0.21 respectively.

On the losing side, Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd led the decliners, falling RM1.70 to RM44.30, followed by Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd which dropped RM0.76 to RM28.94.
