China’s GDP Expands 4.7% In H1 As Growth Moderates In Second Quarter

China’s economy grew 4.7% year-on-year in the first half of 2026, reflecting continued expansion despite moderating momentum in the second quarter, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Wednesday.

The world’s second-largest economy recorded gross domestic product (GDP) of approximately 69.57 trillion yuan (US$10.25 trillion) during the January to June period.

Growth eased in the second quarter, with GDP expanding 4.3% year-on-year, slower than the first-half average, suggesting that economic activity softened amid ongoing domestic and external challenges.

The latest figures indicate that China has maintained positive economic growth in 2026, although at a more measured pace as policymakers continue efforts to support domestic demand while navigating global economic uncertainties.
