The government’s preparedness for the expected El Nino phenomenon, the recent grenade explosion during a Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) training exercise and public health concerns are among the key issues set to dominate the final day of the Dewan Rakyat sitting today.
During the Minister’s Question Time, Bakti Jamaluddin (BN-Tangga Batu) will ask the Agriculture and Food Security Minister to outline the government’s preparations to minimise the impact of El Nino on the agriculture sector and the country’s food security.
He is also seeking details on measures to safeguard irrigation water supplies, sustain padi and food crop production, support the livestock industry and ensure adequate national food stocks.
Meanwhile, Datuk Mohd Isam Mohd Isa (BN-Tampin) will question the Defence Minister on the cause of the recent hand grenade explosion during an ATM training exercise and the immediate steps taken to strengthen safety standard operating procedures to prevent similar incidents.
Tan Kok Wai (PH-Cheras) is expected to ask the Prime Minister about governance and administrative reforms planned for Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) following the feasibility study on the Federal Capital Act 1960 (Act 190), including improvements in integrity, administration and public service delivery.
Public health and religious matters will also come under scrutiny during Question Time.
Sabri Aziz (PN-Jerai) will raise concerns over the spread of deviant teachings in Malaysia and ask about the government’s efforts to strengthen religious understanding among affected individuals.
Datuk Dr Richard Rapu (GPS-Betong) will seek the latest statistics on non-communicable diseases between 2024 and 2026, particularly the rise in diabetes and hypertension cases among those aged below 30. He will also ask the Health Minister to assess the effectiveness of the War on Sugar campaign and the sugar tax in tackling obesity.
The Finance Minister is also scheduled to table the National Trust Fund Bill 2026 for its second reading.
The Second Meeting of the Fifth Session of the 15th Parliament, which has run for 16 days, is scheduled to conclude today.
