Thunderstorms, Heavy Rain To Lash Large Parts of Sarawak Until Noon

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for large parts of Sarawak, with heavy rain and strong winds expected until noon today.

The warning covers Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah, Kapit (Song and Kapit), and Bintulu.

MetMalaysia said the warning is issued when there are indications of thunderstorms capable of producing rainfall exceeding 20mm per hour, with the conditions either already occurring or expected to persist for more than an hour.

The department noted that thunderstorm warnings are short-term alerts, with each issuance valid for a period of no more than six hours.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to remain alert to the risk of flash floods, strong winds and hazardous road conditions during the adverse weather.
