Govt Urges Responsible Use Of Jalur Gemilang Images

The Department of Information has urged Malaysians to use images of the Jalur Gemilang responsibly, warning that the intentional display of the national flag in an incorrect orientation could undermine its dignity and spark public outrage.

JAPEN deputy director of the Communication Services and Community Development Division, Faizal Adanan, said Malaysians should ensure the Jalur Gemilang is displayed correctly across all platforms, including social media, to avoid confusion or disrespect.

He noted that while certain smartphone camera functions may mirror selfie images and make the flag appear reversed, users should check that the image is correctly oriented before sharing it publicly.

Faizal stressed that the issue arises when the flag is deliberately displayed upside down despite users knowing it is incorrect.

“Such actions can create misunderstanding, provoke public anger and offend Malaysians because the Jalur Gemilang is a symbol of the nation’s sovereignty and dignity,” he said during an interview on Bernama Radio.

He also encouraged Malaysians to fly the Jalur Gemilang during the National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations as a sign of patriotism, regardless of race, religion or political affiliation.
